Questions?

Movement Consultation is generally more appropriate for folks who have already been seen by a physical therapist, but may need additional guidance in returning to their previous level of specific sport performance or beyond. For participants who suspect they have a musculoskeletal injury that, if not treated, could worsen, or limit or impair any part of their participation, quality of life, activities of daily living, or necessary physical function, Movement Consultation should only, be used in addition to, and never as a substitution for, any part of a physical therapy care plan, or any other diagnostic services or treatments provided by an appropriately qualified health care provider. In short, our Virtual Physical Therapy is for musculoskeletal injuries, and only available for people in Massachusetts, whereas Movement Consultation is for everything else. Both will be provided by the same person, just under a different professional scope of practice. That person is Dr. Kris Camelio, Physical Therapist, a Doctor of Physical Therapy, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, Master of Health Science, and Certified Ergonomist who is well-seasoned in figuring out what's keeping you from getting back on the field, court, ice, mat, or other competition stage, and moving how you intend to.

A Virtual Ergonomics Consultation is optimized to address your workstation. We help workers and business stakeholders understand the interactions between work or facility environments and their end-users, in order to minimize hazards and risk for musculoskeletal injuries. Our ergonomics workflow is designed to help you change your space. A Virtual Movement Consultation is optimized to address person-specific movement restrictions, in order to optimize participation in specific sport, fitness, athletic & other physical endeavors.  Our movement workflow is designed to help you change how you move, gain strength, endurance, mobility, stability, work capacity, cut-out unnecessary extras from your workout routines, give you the foundational tools for success in a resistance or aerobics exercise training program, and-- where possible, and if that's something you're interested in-- help you develop the skills that allow you to change your own body, to get you to do what you intend to do.

Not through Valid Physical Therapy Services at this time. Kris does see patients in-person in the Greater Boston area through a separate ambulatory outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine practice. To protect your health information, and to avoid potential conflicts of interest, you will need to reach out directly to that practice in order to schedule an in-person visit. If you are a former patient interested in working with Kris again, please contact us so we can provide the most up-to date information, or schedule a no-cost discovery call, so that we may direct you to the services that best meet your current needs.

Not necessarily. I have worked with many patients throughout-- and even before-- the SARS CoV-2 Pandemic, who have achieved and exceeded the outcomes they sought out from virtual physical therapy. We can help inform whether you will need to see a physical therapist in-person by better understanding what causes you to seek my services with a brief Discovery Call. Furthermore, we can, even more correctly, predict whether you'll need to see a physical therapist or another qualified provider in-person following your Virtual Physical Therapy Evaluation. If you're not sure, and you're in Massachusetts, and your issue can truly wait until the next available appointment, book a no-cost discovery call with me.

Overall, it really depends on your goals and needs. Short answer: no. Medium answer: probably not, and not at this time. We are not contracted as an in-network physical therapy provider, or 'enrolled' as a provider with any health insurance plan at this time. Therefore, we cannot accept payment for our services through insurance, and do not, at this time, have the infrastructure to accept payments using anything other than the Jane portal (Jane is the same webiste, scheduling, and software interface that will allow you to book an appointment with us. We will NEVER ask you for payment or financial information through any other means or portals other than the secure Jane Payments platform). For Physical Therapy visits, Jane can provide patients a superbill and associated notes with each visit so that the patient or their authorized representative may submit the appropriate documentation to the patient's health insurance provider for reimbursement under specific circumstances. However, we make no guarantee that any insurance provider will financially reimburse you for any part of our services. Please contact your health insurance provider or other special/supplemental insurance payor to better understand which services are 'covered' by them, and which providers are contracted or enrolled with your health insurance company. If you need more information about our services, we are happy to speak to what we can on a no-cost, no-pressure discovery call.

Kris's most successful cases seem to involve chronic, 'nagging' issues that saw some, but limited progress with previous 'first line' physical therapy treatments. Either the client's interventions hadn't been implemented as intended-- or, we need to account for additional layers of complexity, and help the client in a much more individualized manner. Many sucessful cases have involved: all levels of sports (beginner to professional); recreational weightlifting, baseball, softball and basketball athletes, rotational sports (e.g. tennis, hockey, throwing); running-related overuse injuries; a broad spectrum of fitness and occupational overuse-misuse; as well as acute traumatic injuries. A common theme in what Kris offers that others may not involves bridging the gap between intermediate and advanced weightlifting, strength and conditioning, guiding people thorugh recovery interventions to maximize independence, offsetting some of the forces acting on clients' neuromusculoskeletal systems so they are setting themselves up for success in long-term training programs. Kris delivers world-class services with the highest respect for individual differences, drawing from evidence-based best practices rooted in legitimate scientific scholarship. We're quite confident Kris will be able to help you with Virtual Physical Therapy in this setting if you've been diagnosed with: Shoulder Impingement Syndrome(s), Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome, Hip Impingement Syndrome, Subacute-on-chronic Low Back Pain, Plantar Fasciopathy, Lateral Epicondylalgiae, and Tendinopathies (and you're, of course, comfortable enough with using telecommuincations platforms). If you have a unique sport, job, or performance demand that I'm somehow not familiar with, I have the unique qualifications to be able to figure it out.

Yes I do-- for cases that meet certain criteria. Many licensed physical therapists may be able to assess and treat simple cases of pelvic floor dysfunction are not associated with traumas, symptoms that seem to be worsening within the last month, or other concerns of evolving neurological and/or spinal cord injury. For cases of pelvic floor dysfunction that a) do not require internal interventions, b) are being adequately managed by other medical specialist providers, c) either present with, or do not require specific outpatient orthopedic postoperative protocols, and d) do not require specialist certification to be able to evaluate, diagnose, and treat, I have also successfully treated and helped patients take back control of their symptoms using some very uniquely helpful musculoskeletal interventions. These interventions often involve accounting for specific diaphragmatic breathing strategies, intra-abdominal pressure management, applied physics, and 'putting it all together' at higher levels of function, in ways that may not seem or even feel too different from exercises you enjoy (or at least don't dread doing) in the gym.

Here are a few resources available through the wonderful folks at the Academy of Neurologic Physical Therapy to better identify which patients are appropriate for Virtual Physical Therapy. The Traffic Light Flow Sheet and the Telehealth Checklist can give you better insight into the processes we use to identify who is a good canditate for Virtual Physical Therapy. Please do not hesitate to contact us at your convenience to better understand how we may be able to help, or to discuss possible solutions to best address your patients' needs.

Every situation is different. For Physical Therapy, estimate will be made upon conclusion of your initial evaluation. We will determine whether you'll benefit from following up with me or with another provider. If you have a unique performance deadline, we may be able to complete follow-ups around your schedule, potentially even the same day as your initial evaluation, depending on your needs and our availability. A rough estimate may be as few as 4 or as many as 20 in a 3-month period, depending on your needs.

We can follow up as needed, depending on your situation. Usually, at least one follow-up within 2-4 weeks is helpful to ensure you are independent with our interventions or recommendations. If your work environment, physical activity, or other elements about your situation changes, it may be a good idea to follow up then, as well, to ensure that certain interventions and solutions still apply. Unless you need other services, or truly feel you'd benefit from scheduling regular quarterly or yearly check-ins, I'd plan for 1 to 4 follow-up visits within 1 to 6 weeks.

FOR STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACHING, Your ability to continue a supervised exercise program with a coach is important. While there is value to exercising independently at times, there are also benefits to working out with a coach, workout partner, or friend. Of course, choose wisely. As well, in my experience, the likelihoods that you stick to the plan and optimize safety tend to increase dramatically when working out under the supervision of an experienced professional who maintains certification in good standing through NSCA, ACSM, USAW, or another reputable certifying organization with high standards. That said, sometimes your circumstances and experience can send you on a more independent journey, or you may prefer to work out with my virtual supervision.

Scheduling is organized with the priority to ensure each of the exercises prescribed are completed with adequate fidelity, so that you are performing them in a manner consistent with what's planned, and identify modifications if needed, without unnecessary delay. Therefore, I'd recommend, for a 3- day program, following up each of those 3 different workouts the first week, so that you can get appropriate feedback and supervision, and we can get a better sense of your success on your own.

For clients who work in the strength and conditioning world, with an experienced training history, as well as athletes and former athletes who are already regularly participating in a 3+ day/per week program without foreseeable major life or scheduling changes, I'd recommend following up at least 1 time within the month after recieiving your initial program so we can clarify anything that needs clarification and visual confirmation. I'd recommend following up monthly for fresh programming and goal setting /measurement consultation ensure adequate adherence to your plan.

For professional consulation, including for personal trainers, physical therapists, physical therapy students, exercise science students, design consultants, medical professionals, or professionals in adjacent disciplines, please book here for a virtual professional consultation so that I can better understand your unique issues and help you develop and/or successfully implement solutions.
